New amateur radio regulations will take place in Portugal at June first 2009. According to new regulations, special prefixis of CR1, CR2 and CQ8 will be allocated to Azores. Special callsigns with CU prefix and one letter suffix (like CU2X) will not be given after 31st of May.

CQ WPX Contest (30.-31. May) will be the last time for the CU2X callsign. New callsing for CU2A / CU2X will be released shortly after new regulations will take place.

New call sings of CR2A and CR2X have been issued since 1st of June 2009.

On October 4, 2008 Mr. Ricardo José Moniz da Silva, the Mayor of the City of Ribeira Grande, paid a visit to the new location and made the very first radio contact at  CU2X. He spoke with Mr. Avelino Bettencourtt, CU2DE, another Azores operator in the remote village of Ribeira Quente.
